In theory, this will work.....

Both drives based apon MediaTeK chipsets, so MTKFLASH can be used.

The CD-W548E writes at 48X in P-CAV mode, which if it continued in CAV, could easily write at 52X.

The only doubt perhaps would be (maybe?) the 24X ReWriting of the CD-W552E, but they should be the same internally - just like the Lite-On's with the same model prefix, i.e. (the "5" in 48125W, 40125W, 32125W....)

More later [8D]

We will see when the CD-W552E hits the market [8D]

Well given that the Teac 48x is said to be the same drive as the Asus 48x, and john says you can't update the Asus 48x to 52x, I would doubt it [:(]

BTW has anyone tried to flash the Teac 48x with Asus firmware, or vice-versa? I'd like to know if these drives truly are the same, the Teac seems to perform much better but the Asus is cheaper, so by flashing an Asus with Teac firmware....... you get the idea [:D]
