hey all, just got the TDK 52x24x48x #AI-CDRW5200B. found out it has same chipset as the lite on, which does a 52 read also, i wonder why this unit can write at 52, but not read at 52, any way to make it read at 52x? can i put lite on firm on it? thanx alot.

Some manufacturers believe that 52X reading speed may cause problems with discs so they limit down to 48X
ok, i can understand that.. maybe i should ask this way... do you think i could put the LiteOn firmware onto my tdk and then get the 52 read? comparing units pix are identical, metal case, button and lite placment, and circuit chipsets. so i would think it would work ok?
thanx

hmmm, some how i'm not very convinced, :) question is, what happens if it fails horribly... would there a way to fix it? or even if it doesnt kill the drive and i wanna go back, but there is no tdk firmware out even to put back on? can u save current firm like u can with mobo bios's?
ok, i just ran a cd read benchmark, and the drive is in fact hitting 52x at the end of the cd, just like it does when writing... so i guess it is supporting 52 read, they must just not advertise it? oh well.. decided against the firm, dont wanna ruin anything... thanx for your reply's
