Tim1681 -> 7 CD-ROM Tower, What Controller?? (6/12/2004 5:52:21 PM)

Chances are that there's at least 10 other posts on this website about this so sorry about the inconvenience if there is, but anyways...

I have recoverd a Tower complete with 7 CD-ROM Drives in it connected in parallel to each other. Now my problem is that there are 2 ports on the back, one goes to the 1st drive, then the cable goes down the CDROMs & out the second port. Do i need a dual channel controller? & Any more info you could give me on setting this up would be great![;)]

Well, i was planning on using it as a Application Server for my programs that need CD's in order to run, that way i wouldnt have to keep putting in CD's for different programs, & i dont really want to get rid of it[&:]

If you plan to use the tower only for reading, you don't need any extra software, just map the drive's letters if you are going to use the tower in a lan

OK, thanks. but do i need a dual-channel controller since it has 2 ports on the back?

Maybe, the tower doesn't include any attached manual?

I just read something interesting, since the set of CDROMs are daisy chained together, would it work if i used a single channel controller plugged into the first port & put a terminator in the second port on the back of the tower?

Heres some info about the tower:
7 CDR1910A's Daisy Chained Together
2 Female CN50 Ports on back
1st port is connected to 1st CDROM
2nd port is connected to last cdrom
Have 2 cables : Male CN50's on one side & HD50's on the other side

Put it on ebay.

You say you want to run 7 drives in a house, only to serve up less than 5gb of data? Your electric company will LOVE you.

Sell the tower on ebay, if somebody buys it.
I would then buy a cheap 80gb drive, around $50 these days.
Add the drive to the same server you were going to use.
Create a folder for each CD, copy them, then share them.
Map to the shares, its just like hitting a CD.

If you really want to stay on the cheap, remember you can get smaller drives on ebay for peanuts these days.

Good Luck with it!
