mat5t -> Insektors Messed Up My System!!! (10/7/2002 8:16:13 AM)

i have been trying to copy UT2003 and in my attempts to make it work, i d/l Insektors and installed the driver. now after robooting, my cd-r drive (hp 9500 series) doesn't show up anymore. checked hardware device manager and have yellow exclamation on cd-r saying "no driver loaded"... ugh! [:(!]

to further my pain, uninstalling the driver was to no avail... and i tried reinstalling the correct driver with no better results...

anyone have any suggestions???

Try going to the system hardware manager and right click that drive with the yellow exclamation and select to remove the drive. Then reboot, Windows should recognize the drive as new hardware and reinstall it. All should work then. Worth a try....

Does it detect the drive and try to reinstall it?

mat5t -> RE: Insektors Messed Up My System!!! (10/7/2002 8:33:49 AM)

yes... but upon reboot, still no drive letter. [:(]

Can you see it under Hardware Manager? Stange because it always seems to work for me this way...

tron -

i can see it there still with yellow asterisk.

is there a way i can get rid of the tweak that insektors put on my system(s)?

what is very odd is i have two pc's that are suffering from this wonderful ailment and behaving in exactly the same manner.

thank you for your help-

I take it you did an unistall of Insectors? Also you might try something like System Mechanic. I think they have a free Demo you could try. Just download it and do the Registry clean and see if that helps. But make sure you have the Insectors removed first. Hope this helps.

thanks for the tip again...

however, system mechanic did not make it work, either.

yes, i have uninstalled the driver and the software. am i getting to the point where the only option is "format c:" ?

thanks again

Well, what I told you normally works for me. Anyone else have any ideas?

Dolphinius_Rex -> RE: Insektors Messed Up My System!!! (10/7/2002 7:05:59 PM)

umm, if you wanna play it a little risky, and if you're already considering formatting your drive ANYWAYS, why not do a little registry adjustment? use regedit (or your favourite registry editing program) and search your registry for all mentions of the work insektors. Or if it has any other key words or files, search for them as well, and then just delete them. Follow up by running system mechanic on your registry in case something was messed up by mistake, and hopefully you will have fixed the problem. Another idea is booting of the win2000 CD and doing a repair OS command. Good Luck!

MP3Mogul -> RE: Insektors Messed Up My System!!! (10/7/2002 10:08:40 PM)

You need to do a registry edit and remove all traces of the Insecktors or whatever the name was completely. There are bits of it still in your registry if you removed it through windows automatically. Once you have done this, do a fresh install of the driver you want, this should resolve your issues.

well... thank all very much for your suggestions, however none of them seemed to work. so now i am in the middle of reformatting. I tried all of the things that were suggested, but reformatting is not that big a deal... just kinda a big time suck...

thanks again
