I think you will find it is also down to which Writer you are using with InCD in XP as well. I have got 4 computers here with different Writers in and I do not have any problems with InCD using Yamaha 3200e, TDK 401248B (Lite-on) or the AOpen CDRW4048 (Ricoh). But I do have ocassional problems with Plextor PX-W1210A (Sanyo) but they are not critical and I have not yet destroyed a CDRW. But it could also be down to what media you are using I always use the Ricoh 10X CDRW and they will write at 12x on the Yamaha and the TDK with no problems at all!
