4SDFED -> Want to burn cd's from old cassettes (2/18/2002 2:50:17 PM)

I have some old tapes from when I was a kid that I would like to preserve on CD. I have an available tape deck I can use, and basically just want to play the tape, record onto the computer, then burn onto a cd. But which program should I use for this? I don't want to pay for some program i'm only going to use a few times, so I'd like to use freeware or a program with a half decent demo. What kind of programs do you guys use? I don't think i need anything fancy, as its just me and my cousin talking on the tape. Thanks for any help!

You could use Soundforge - trial available here http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step2.asp?DID=287

Or Cool Edit - available here http://www.syntrillium.com/download/

I get lots of buzzing and not much music when I try this.

Is it my old sound card?

So I hooked my tape deck into my computer, and produced a .wav file. 15 minutes turned out to be 60 minutes of space on a cd. After I wrote the .wav file using easy cd creator 4 I couldn't hear my recording on my cd player (where as my music mp3 cd's work). It only worked using the Microsoft media player. What am I doing wrong?
