Hard drive compadibility?

Hello, my brothers Dell pentium 4 Dimension 8300 Pc w/ windows xp is missing it's hard-drive And I was wondering how to put my pc's hard-drive in to replace it, if at all possible. I have a Compaq Presario 7598 w/ a pentium 3 processor that was desinged for 98, but has xp. Also, I tried to replace the hard-drive myself but all I got on my brothers computer was a blank un-interactive screen. Can anybody help me?
