metalliholic -> Nero "version" question (6/21/2006 3:02:04 PM)

O.k. I'm getting confused.........my new Sony DVD burner came with Nero, and you can get the updates etc. etc. But is the Nero 6 "Ultra" a better version? A friend said that these are the express versions, or something like that, and he desribed some things on his version of Nero 6 that was definitely different. In a nutshell, which is the most complete and full version of Nero 6? Thanks in advance!

The version of Nero that comes with a drive is a scaled down version without all options, and it can only be used with that particular drive.

The latest version is Nero 7.

The Ultra version is the full blown version of Nero.

I've read a lot of reviews that said it was full of bugs........what have you heard?

I've been a tester for Nero for quite some time.

The latest version 7.2.0.3b seems to have a few reported user bugs, mostly people have problems with SKIPS after writing an MP3 to a CDR.  This percentage is small.  Nero has tried to recreate the problem but has not isolated it, nor are they able to duplicate it.  There is a lengthy thread about it here on the board.  The problem there seems to lie in the mp3pro.dll file.

Also, in the latest release of Nero 7 (7.2.0.3b) there is a bug, when you click NeroVision it will load, but it takes anywhere from 2-5 minutes before it loads.  This is a conflict with antivirus software, and will be correct in the next release (coming in just a few days).

Other than that, I use Nero 7 all the time, and I have not experienced any problem (except for the slow loading of NeroVision).

So, there would be no harm in sticking with 6, if I just want to avoid the hassles?

Absolutely, no reason to upgrade unless there is something specific that you are looking for.  If everything works great, I say leave it alone!

I think v6.x.x is the best Nero yet once it matured, but I expect to say the same for Nero v7.x.x once it matures.  I am using Nero 7 right now only because I am confident that they will get it right.  They have always focused on making it a great product and until I see that stop, I'll stick with Nero as my primary burning app.

Same as well.  I have always and will always use Nero.

I use Nero 7 and it is the best I have found so far.
