LesF -> Please Help with Video DVD Question (3/17/2006 4:43:13 PM)

My son recently bought a camcorder (Sony) that records directly to a miniature DVD  disk.  The first test disk he recorded was on a DVD-R disk, which he finalized in the camera. The disk is capable of playing directly to a TV from a DVD player, or can be played on a computer.  The files on the disk have the following extensions: .BUP, .IFO, and .VOB.
I know that I can copy the camera DVD disk to a full sized DVD disk, but what I want to do is to select specific (not all) video clips (tracks?) without editing them, and burn them to a full-sized DVD disk capable of playing on the TV with a DVD player, or playng on a computer.  Of course, I have the necessary DVD burner on my PC, and I have NERO software.
Since I've never played with video before, my questions are:
- How (specifically) can I do this?
- What is the best software to use?
- Should he use a different medium (i.e., DVD+R, DVD-RW, etc.), and should he finalize the disk in the camera prior to editing/copying on the PC?
Also, how can I replace the sound track that was recorded from the camera with a different sound track (i.e., music)?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
