deft -> Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/3/2003 12:32:13 PM)

Ok this is by far the strangest cd-rw drive related problem I have ever seen or heard of but some how it happend, ok I updated my firmware like all you guys have suggested to do from 1.0c to 1.0g to get the benfits of the new media testing and what not. That went great burner was working better then ever. BOOM last week friday to be exact my drive stops working right wont read any disk at all but blanks and only burns at 4x with buffer underrun protection turned off. Anything else I get "power calabration" errors, so naturally I thought oh it was that firmware version so I went back to 1.0c now my drive wont do anything!! And I have voided the warrenty on the drive so I cant get it RMA'd. AM I SCREWED?!?!

running winxp pro sp2 (all latest patches)
aspi version 4.60
soyo dragon plat. kt400
athlon 2400+
nero 6.0.0.0 ultra
cdrwin 3.9e

How did you VOID the warranty on the drive???? Flashing a Yamaha drive with Yamaha firmware does NOT void the warranty. I suggest you ensure you have the correct ASPI layer installed: You can download Laffin's fix here:

http://members.aol.com/mp3mogul/aspi.zip

did you DISABLE DMA before flashing the drive? This is often a cause of flash failures with the Yamaha drives?

You state you are running WinXP Pro SP2, but there is no such service pack released for WinXP as of this date.

Also, I suggest you update to the latest nero, 6.0.0.19

ok...i also went to firmware version g and am now getting that power calibration message. I was using f before and would like to go back but I cant find it. I am running XP Pro and have latest version of Nero.

thanks,
ORioLE

Ok it will burn my cheap imations cdr's but will no longer work w/ the verbatims i have [:(!]

MP3Mogul -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/4/2003 3:54:44 AM)

The 1.0g firmware did include some updates on specific brands of media, but you must understand, that yamaha's techs TESTED this media, and the only way anything would have changed is if the media quality was horrible.

Imation discs have LONG been the WORST discs available on the market....... Perhaps the worst ever made.

I would suggest visiting Yamaha's website, and getting the suggested media, you will have no problems with it. As far as "quality" goes with writing and media, there is NO other writer, that has produced, the quality of this drive.

How did you VOID the warranty on the drive????
I did a case mod to the drive to change the drives open button. warranty voided :|

If you look on the windows update site you can see that every patch after sp1 that you download is SP2-numbers thats all I meant by saying sp2 is that I have the latest windows updates.
Tried new nero same thing.
My aspi layer is fine, it is version 4.60 and everything is green.
And yes I did disable DMA it was a pain in the ass but I did :)

Please HELP!!!

Have you recently installed other burning software? Have you disabled the IMAPI burning software in windows?

deft -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/4/2003 11:09:44 PM)

no and no

MP3Mogul -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/5/2003 12:41:32 AM)

Have you tried reflashing the drive?? Make sure you are in PIO mode first, Windows Safe Mode also works. Try deleting the IDE channels in the device manager, and reboot, and let Windows reinstall them, and see if this makes a difference.

deft -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/6/2003 10:24:16 AM)

Ok I tried reflashing it and that seems to have made it worse then before now I cant even burn cds at all...
I'm starting to think I was better off getting a new dvd burner or something...

Burnologist -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/7/2003 12:54:51 AM)

How bad of a mod did you do? Is it really noticable?

deft -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/7/2003 4:12:33 PM)

All I did is change the button from the drives defualt button to another one.
Point is thou that it was working just fine the whole time it has been modded is there some way to like deflash my drive totally and then reflash it?
Or fix it somehow if the flashing process got messed up or something?

Laffin Assassin -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/7/2003 4:24:01 PM)

Well the first thing I would suggest is that you delete the Firmware you have downloaded and download it again from :-
http://www.yamaha-service.de/service-download/firmware/crw/af110g_e.exe

Then if you have any Antivirus programs running I suggest you disable it and then try and flash it again but make sure you follow the Yamaha Instructions Fully including flash it in PIO !!![:)]

MP3Mogul -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/7/2003 6:29:01 PM)

If after you do as Laffin says above, and it will NOT flash, I will send you an attachment on how to flash it.

deft -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/8/2003 5:24:58 PM)

Ok flashed it again for this being the 3rd time now.
Its back to the way it was when the problem first started but it flashed fine. I'm really confused as to how this could have happend...but any more help you guys can pull would be great....

Burnologist -> RE: Yamaha F1e is sorta dead (10/8/2003 8:46:19 PM)

So after you reflashed the firmware it is okay or you get the same error? If you do, you should call tech support and see if they will RMA it. As long as the face plate fits back on they should fix it.
