kogos -> new Verbatim +R DL 8x certified media (MKM003) (7/5/2005 9:10:54 AM)

These Verbatim +R DL 8x certified media just reached our lab, and of course, we started testing them with some DVD burners....

We used the BenQ DW1640 burner (firmware: BSID).

We check the media with BenQ's Q-Check...

....then burned it with CopytoDVD (8x). It took us 14:11mins to burn at 8x.!!!

...... and here are some good scans/readings we got with the Plextor 716A and the LiteON 167:

... comments are welcome
you can also see HERE the quality scans of the BenQ DW1640, when writing at 8x with Verbatim +R DL 2.4x certified media...

... the way i see it, 8x +R DL writing is finally becoming reliable!!!

Coool! There is no difference in jitter between Layer 1 and 2.. and the jitter level is also as low as on a SL disc. The PIE/PIF level is also very low.. like on a average SL disc. MKM 003 look very promising.. if only the price would be 1/2 of a MKM 001. =)

BTW. I wonder what happend with MKM 002 ?

In this thread
Kenshin says the price will be about  US$1,
one US dollar a piece !??
I cannot believe such a price !

The lowest price I have ever seen in Europe for a "MKM-001" (DVD+R DL 2,4x Verbatim)
was around 7 € ...

hotrod11 -> RE: new Verbatim +R DL 8x certified media (MKM003) (7/7/2005 2:14:52 PM)

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!  Hold on here! I don't want to get all EXCITED[sm=12.gif][sm=banana.gif] about what one single guy said about DL media being $1 a piece.  But that would totally make my day.  He's probably wrong.[:(] But here's to hoping.[8|]

very good performance for engineering samples from MKM, probably even higher DL recording speeds would be available at the near future

It is the newest firmware version from BenQ... (I made a small mistake, it is not BSID but BSIB)

you can get it here

This firmware version was only available for 1 day from BenQ's official web-site, and it is now offline for more testing... Click here if you want to try it anyway

added: improved quality with +R DL and -R DL...

Update only if you are experiencing any problems with your current firmware!

i think that philips/benq already constructed DVD+RW DL media (engineering samples). Can you test these as well?[&:]

we don't have these media yet, cause these are still under laboratory testing...

As soon as we 'll get them, we will post some results!!!

Anybody care to comment on this, please.  I'm a cheapskate.

eleajar -> RE: new Verbatim +R DL 8x certified media (MKM003) (7/8/2005 6:48:49 AM)

this is practically impossible... i bet that they will cost even more than MKM001

this is just a word from one guy, so it is not official in any kind...[:@]
