Hi all. I have a prob with the above dvd burner, but its related to cd burning. I was burning a legitimate cd (Pearl Jams Ten), and when it got to 100% the program hung on me. Now it wont read and cds at all, its like there is nothing in the drive, but it still reads and burns dvds. [:(] If someone could help me with any info that would be muchly appreciated. Thanks [:D]

Have you tried to update the firmware? Whish burning software do you have?

I use Nero 6.3.1, and NeroStarSmart 1.0.1. I havent tried to update the firmware as yet. The current firmware version is CSO2.

It would be better for you to install the latest Nero version as well as the latest firmware, from below:

So should I be downloading firmware version dr16csom even though my dvd burner is only 8x speed max (I am assuming that the speed doesn't matter)? Is there a limit to the number of copyrighted (protected) cds that you can burn (like you can only change the region of the dvd player a certain amount of time)? If so, is there a program, like dvd region free, that you can use to reset or disable the counter?

Your burner is 8X? If it is the 1653 model then it is 16X burner.[:)]

Which protection has your CD? No there is no limit to the number of copyrighted (protected) cds that you can burn.

Its 16x? Awesome![sm=matrix15-coolemoticons.gif] Dont know what cd protection is used, but I will check it out. I am about to update the firmware to CSOM, so I will let you know how it goes.

OK. So I upgraded my firmware to CSOM and that worked fine. [:)]  But, my computer still wont read cds at all, not even in explorer. Doesn't matter whether its data or music, it wont read them. It still reads, plays and burns dvds without a problem at all, but it acts as if there isn't even a cd in the drive. [:@]  Is there any other suggestions that you could give me as to how to solve this problem, apart from buying a new burner?

No matter what CD is it? I mean the CDs you tried, are you sure they are playable?

No matter what cd it is. They are all playable. I have tried burnt music cds, data cds, original music cds and nothing works. But dvds work fine.

You need to delete the IDE channel that the drive is on, then reboot and let windows reinstall that driver.

Also download and install ASPI 4.60 http://members.cox.net/mp3mogul/aspi.zip but read the included instructions.  This will more than likely resolve your issues.

Well I tried that and it still wont read any cds. Is there an ASPI for xp that I might need to install? Any other suggestions?

I updated the ASPI to 4.71.2 and that didnt help the problem either. [:@]
