Hi there [:D]
I use mainly Infiniti DVD's & had no problems
The 8x & lower are CMC coated. (They used to be Ritek coated, until Ritek got more exclusive) Quality very high.
16x are MMC coated(Verbatim use this for their disc's) Quality excellent
I can burn the 8x at 12x with little or no loss in quality
The 16x I quite often burn at 12x for reference purpose's
On average 16x twice the cost of 8x [8D]

I burn with my 3520 Taiyo Yuden media.

Verbatim, Maxell are are also great.

ive used several different DVD's and i havnt got a coaster yet.
the ones off the top of my head that i tried were:
HP 4x DVD+R (CMC Mag)
Memorex 4x DVD+R (CMC Mag)
Taiyo Yuden DVD-R (TYG02)
Maxell DVD-R (MXL RG03)
Verbatim 4x DVD+RW (MKM) MIT tho so its actually made by CMC Magnetics
Optodisc 4x DVD+RW
Verbatim DVD9 +R (MKM)
Ridata (RICOHJPNR01)

As Iggy said, the best media is Taiyo Yuden, Maxell (made in Japan), Verbatim (made in singapore). Where the media was made is very important.
