Anyone know what DvD-RW's are compatible with dell? I was told that it had to be a dell drive as they set them up to use only their hardware. Could I use any DVD drive with the same connecters? I have the SONY dw-d56a drive right now and can't seem to get it to work. I would like to just drop another drive in it and see if it runs. Any help on replacement CD and DVD drives would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I have tried an IBM drive and when the system boots the main bios it shows that the drive is not recognized. However if I hot swap the drive after windows is booted it recognizes it. I own a DELL 9100 laptop and am wondering if I can avoid this problem on boot up so that I do not have to do a hot swap everytime. thanks.
I've heard rumors that with some Dell computers the components use a different voltage than what typical power supplies put out. If that's true, you would have to get a drive directly from Dell. It's because of **** like this that I avoid buying whole computers from companies. I prefer just to build my own.
So if I buy the same model number or the NEC model number that DELL uses from a different supplier it should work? If that is the case I will buy the NEC from a web site for $115 and just change the face plate.
