puree -> DVD Burner & Asus P5GD1 (3/15/2005 6:21:37 AM)

Hi,
I recently bought a new pc. I've chosen an Asus P5GD1 MB and a CD/DVD burner from Aopen (E-IDE).
My HDD is connected via S-ATA (and is set to master); my burner was connected to the primary IDE (and is set to master). In that configuration, I was able to read cds and burn data cds. Burning audio cds however seemed impossible ... Now I've switched the burner to the secondary IDE and burning works fine now (both data and audio).
However the booting process is now very very slow [&:]
I suppose connection to the secondary IDE isn't the "normal" thing to do ?? Why can't I connect the burner to the primary IDE or what can I do to solve the slow booting problem ?
The boot sequence = first floppy, than HDD. In my opnion the problem isn't this sequence, because the pc keeps hanging just after I turned him on (I see the screen : prim. IDE : not detected ... sec. IDE : Aopen DUW).

Thanks in advance

well, just got home from vacation ;) lucky me i suppose...but poor u.. having a new machine that disfunctionals is really a bother, let me say..
well, i'd suggest the firmware upgrades for yur new burner... that usually solves most of the probs.. then again, normally the second IDE shouldn't cause u troubles..on ur secondary IDE the burner is master or slave? lets work this thing togetha, cause who knows, maybe i'll have the same prob someday..

have you tried the latest firmware for both your motherboard and your optical storage devices?

thanks for the replies guys !
Yes, mobo has the latest firmware, so no problem on this point. Burner = master.
I really don't feel a lot to do a firmware upgrade of my burner. It's new and the last time a did an upgrade on a burner (a Waitec) I kept having "power calibration errors".

In fact, the second IDE just causes troubles on the boot up side. Burning works fine, but it's a pitty that my new machine started up in 20 sec (burner connected to primary IDE) and now it takes 1 minute to boot.

How does your burner is connected to your mobo ? Is that through the primary IDE ? I didn't expect this problem with an Asus MB ....

Does ur Asus has raid controler build in?
i think we may be closing to a solution here m8 :)

yes, MB has RAID, but isn't that for HDD drivers rather than for optical drives ?

anyway, i've bought an 80 pin cable and replaced the original 60 pin cable with the new one. I also put the driver on its normal position, that is on the primary IDE and guess what ? Burning works fine now !!!
Also the slowless of the booting is disappeared also !!

conclusion : use 80 pin ide cables with asus and nero and get rid off the 60 pin ide cables that come with the package !!

I have the same MB with you and my hdd connects to pri raid, dvd-burner connects to pri ide. i also having very slow burning speed. so do you think replacing the cable with a 80 pin will help thanks a lot.

fernandes -> RE: DVD Burner & Asus P5GD1 (4/14/2005 9:18:10 AM)

well thats weird..y would someone need an 80pin cable..seen sth like this on a pioneer once...luckily not mine :)

nevermind though, cause ur drive now works and so does the rest of the system :)
have fun m8, and i better keep that in mind :)
