You might want to try Quickee's NecDump (Firmware Strategy Reader v1.0 RC2).
Download available here.....

When I try this, all of the tabs come up blank... any ideas why?

I have also noticed this when exploring 25X0 firmware.
The tool was developed primarily for 3500 firmware though it does have some functionality for 2500 firmware. It wiil report write strategies and compare strategies.
I do not know if the author will further develop this tool for the 2500 series as the tool is still under development and will be upgraded periodically.

I can make some inquiries and post back if you would like, assuming this is the situation you encountered.

All I'm looking for is a way to burn Ritek 8x media at 8x. I'll take it any way I can get it, short of buying a new dvd burner.

That is an reasonable and understandable request, but with no idea of what equipment you own and what firmware you have had experiences with it becomes impossible for anyone to make recommendations on how this could be achieved.

This may be of no immediate consolation but Quickee, the author of the tool, expressed that he is currently very involved with other projects which require his immediate attention. He is currently engaged in developing a new patcher and modded firmware, and as such will place the dump tool on hold temporarily. He vowed that it's completion with both new 25X0 and 35X0 codes is immeninent.
