Hi, apologies for repeating this no doubt frequently seen Noob question.

Im running an OEM NEC2510a firmware 2.1, and OS is Win XP home SP2.

I have been advised to update firmware to 2.16 to ensure optimum disk compatability (ANV Ritek 8xDVD-R). Ive never done this before, but figure if Im going to do it I might as well flash it to RPC 1 and remove riplock. (esp as the official NEC site claims the new firmware is incompatable with my OEM drive

I have located a (Beta) windows flasher from the Dangerous brothers to do this job. (link found on this very site)

Questions

Do I need to update using the original 2.16 firmware, then again with the rip lock patch, or will the rip lock version install 2.16., then again with RPC1 patch

I have uninstalled Easy Media creator to remove packet writing software. Is it now as simple as using end it all to close running apps and clicking the relevent exe. file (Some people advise removing all external USB devices, unplugging additional drives etc).

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks Emperor,

I have used the RPC1 and Riplock flasher (2f7 as found on the dangerous brothers site )and it really was as easy as clicking on the exe file.

One further question - before flashing firmware was identified as 2.15, now 2f7. However, Region code prior to flashing was region 2, 3 user resete and 3 vendor resets remaining - it is now region2, 1 reset remaining with no vendor resets, and an old copy of Region free DVD still shows drive as having region protection - Is this usual?, or do I need to reflash again.

(I havent yet tested riplock).

Edit - Just ran DVDInfoPro which tells me Im now RPC1

Thanks

Nick.
