I am trying to update InCD from version 2.24 to 3.51.61

When I run the exe I get this error:

An error has occurred while creating the directory process
(Directory name: )
Please check the path and try again

Has anyone else hit this and have a solution?

Thx

I would try to remove old InCD version and install the new one (after reboot)

Os is Win98

This exec, from the nero site, is an upgrade only. I must have a previous version of InCD installed to run it.

The first time I run InCD3.51.61UP.exe it finds the current version but gets the create dir error.
At this point InCD has been stopped.
If I run the install again it says I must have a previous version installed & quits.

If I restart the InCD.exe and run the install I am back to the create dir error.

Thx for the reply.

Not long ago I removed Nero and InCD on a Win98SE box, then installed an OEM version of Nero, upgraded to 5.5.9.17, downloaded InCD 3.51.61 from Ahead, and installed it without any problem. Why don't you follow my procedure? Assuming you still have the original disk with InCD 2.24, you could reinstall it if necessary. Well, 2.24 indicates a fairly old vintage; are you sure Ahead allows free upgrades for your version of Nero? Check their upgrade policy.

The info on this upgrade at nero's site refers to versions as old as 1.3
So I don't think that's the problem.

Again, why didn't you follow john's and my suggestions? If you did, what happened?

Ignoring InCD momentarily, which Nero version are you running? Does it allow you to upgrade to the latest 5.5.9.17?

You might have been confused by the statement on Ahead's site:

"Updates run only on systems where a previous version of InCD is installed."

As indicated by john and me, this is not really correct. Once a suitable version of Nero is installed, InCD should not refuse to install.

Another possible source of confusion is that Ahead offers InCD updates only, but Ahead's meaning of "updates" is strange (there are no stand-alone versions).

So I repeat our suggestions. First, remove the old InCD via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Then peek at Program Files\Ahead and its subdirectories, and delete any traces of InCD (I don't know where InCD 2.24 installs by default). Now, make sure that Nero 5.5.9.17 is installed and working properly. Then run InCD3.51.61UP.exe, choosing the default installation directory (Program Files\Ahead\InCD). If you still get an error, report the exact message to us.

My CD burner came with InCD, Nero & 1 other prog. Since I only use InCD that is all I have installed. I will try installing Nero as well and see what happens. As soon as I find the CD.[:I] I know it's around here somewhere. (grumble grumble search search......)
