Help can't flash Nec 2500A - 6/19/2004 1:49:20 AM

I tried to flash my oem NEC 2500a, but nothing works. I get a msg with windows flasher, -Target Nec nd-2500a not found correctly- using herrbies 2k5107v2b5dl and v2b4, When I try the dos flasher, it goes back to dos prompt without writing anything. Burns dvds fine.
It's listed in Nero InfoTool as

Ok lets see...

a) What kind of PC system you have?
b) Where have you installed the NEC drive, MASTER/SLAVE at which IDE BUS?

As far i know Windows flashers cannot flash drives connected to external USB/FireWire boxes

I'm running AMD Athlon 2600, win xp, and tried primary and secondary ide with jumpers on master.

what firmware version is that???
don't expect your drive to be identified as 2510A with the firmware you applied... it will still be recognized as 2500A, but will have bitsetting and DL support... So, i think you already flashed your drive with success...

How can I flash it, if no flashing occured. I got the error msg -Target Nec nd-2500a not found- as soon as I launched the windows flasher program. No dual layer support listed in Nero info tool. I think the 1.N5 was the firmware that came with the drive.

I'm going to use this as a spare drive and buy a true 2510

try applying the official 1.06 or 1.07 firmware then use the flasher from herrie... that should do the job... I think that the flasher only works from version 1.06 and above (you will see the same thing mentioned in nec's site, the 1.07 firmware can be applied only in a 1.06 drive...)... Good luck...

It didn't work. Is it possible someone flashed a generic dvd drive to make it look like a 2500a? I was told it is OEM, but there is no label on the drive.

I have asked Herrie and told me that OEM drives only can be flashed under pure DOS

Curious to how you flashed it in dos, i booted a win98 bootdisk, and ran the exe i dl'ed and it said it could not be run in DOS.

Am I missing something here?
