I'm new at this. I wanted an opinion on the best CDR's blank CD's to record Audio and to use for my system backup. I have a a CD burner HP 9300. I 've used 80 min TDK. Any recomendations.

I would reccomend the following:

BASF/EMTEC CERAM GUARD -> Made by Tayo Yuden and with a real hard upper layer. Most normal cd's will not have such a good protection at the upside as these cd-r's.

Mitsui -> Not a hard upper layer. But the strange things with these disc's is that you may actually burn them if your drive cannot burn any other brand. I have seen this on my own philips 3610. I have burned many disc's with it, but at one time it stopped. It tried to clean it but it didn't work. I tried these Mitsui CD-R's and I could burn again. Normally I used TDK/ BASF CERAM GUARD/ SONY and I have tested some disc's made by other manuafacturers and at this point only mitsumi seems to work. I think that the burner is dying and only still wants mitsui because of the better compatibility with the dye mitsui uses.

Could this extra sensitivity become a problem later in terms of bad resistence against tough environments.

Try Taiyo Yuden, Mitsui, Ricoh based CDs.

Actually what's wtitten on the label is not the point.
Use a program like CDR Identifier or Click 'N' Burn to see the CDR's
Manufacturer.

Prefer CDR's made from Taiyo Yuden, Ricoh, Sony, Mitsui, Mitsubishi Chemicals or Prodisc, Plasmon Media for cheap ones.
Avoid CDR's made form CMC Media, Multi Machinery, Ritek, Auva, and CD's that "Disk ID is not allowed"
