I have an LG cd-Rom drive and I was wondering if you could tell me how to get my computer to recognize  it. Also What settings would I have to put the jumper on? Because the cd-rom drive letter has been deleted from my computer. How do I go about getting it back?

Let me try to understand, it was working and now it is not?  ...or is it a new drive?  What OS are you running?

yes it was working but now my computer doesn't even show that i have a cd-rom drive in the control panel and it doesn't even have the letter D: showing for the drive and the driver was accidently deleted. So we tried to install another one the same model and brand and we don't have a disk or another cd drive so we don't know how to get it to recognize the cd-rom drive again. we're rinning windows 98  OS.

Can you see the drive in the BIOS on boot-up... is it detected?

Could be a rootkit... you can probably do a google search for rootkit removal and it may help you out... Give it a whirl and post back.

no it's not even recognizing the cd-rom drive in the BIOS upon boot up. Thanks for giving me an idea on where to search for a root kit removal. Maybe it will help resolve the problem I'll keep you posted. Thanks again Tracy For your help.

Perhaps try a new IDE cable (get an 80-conductor ribbon cable)...

Hello!
I didn't want to open a new thread so I will just place my problem here. I have same CD-ROM (LG CRD-8521B), and when I put CD in it, my computer restart itself over and over again. I use Windows 98 SE, and in My Computer E: drive is there, but it's not responding (I don't know the real message that pops up, but I can check it later if it's necessary). Anyway, I assume that my CD-ROM is "dead", but maybe I'm wrong. Can we bring cd-rom back to life somehow?
