Well, as far as the US goes, you will either find the installation one of two ways. If you find a "reputable" electronics dealer to install the chip, you will probably either pay a "flat fee" or you will pay and "hourly fee" for the installation. My suggestion would be to just "shop" around, and don't jump at the first opportunity that comes by.

I have to agree. You are going to find that there will be a wide range in prices. Shop around, and make sure you use someone who will do the job right. Cheap is not always best!

Oh okay, thats not exactly the answer i wanted to hear,

basically your saying that this will take time huh?

if you dont mind, could you tell me (for the administrators mostly)

what did you do, like did you order your mod-chip and install

yourselves? What mod-chip did yall get, cause i had one of you saying

that the MDS3(i think thast what it was) was the best, then another

one of yall said that the Magic mod 3 was good or something like that.

And you ask me to shop around, but if either of you have one of these

mod chips already, did you look for the best price, and if you did,

could you tell me where you ordered it from, to save me time, thank

yall.

I'm saying, do alot of reading, look at what you want to accomplish, then compare the mod chips, to what you want to do, and if they meet your needs, then start seeking places that sell/install them...... then you will be well informed...... anytime you are going to make an electronic mod to something that you own, it is best to be well "read" and informed, then you can decide what is best for you.

It is very easy, for a Mod/Admin to suggest something, and we can do that for you, but we are not always "aware" of your particular circumstance, nor what you are trying to accomplish. There is a "fountain" of knowledge both "here" and throughout the net..... if you would like to "expound" on exactally what you want to do, we would be glad to further assist you...... but just from experience, please get all the information on exactally "what you expect" from a mod chip, and what you expect to be able to accomplish.

I just want to add that if you plan to install the chip yourself you better be good at soldering. It takes a little know how to make sure you do not mess it up. The solder joints are very small and you can easily destroy the unit. I recommend you get it done by someone. As for the mod chip, just remember that cheapest is not always the best!

I bought a magic 3.1 and installed it myself over a year ago when it first came out. It came with the dumbest instalation instructions that I have ever seen. I should have made new ones as I went.

My point = some mod chip instructions give you a run-around on purpose to make you pay that reseller to do it for you.

But I can definately say this... for the purpose of GENERAL USE.. most mod-chips = SUPER SMART IDEA! Especially on a PS2! I have so many friends that have PS2s which either had to be refurbished, or replaced out of their own pocket due to problems reading blue or silver media(store bought games of course) from all the wear of the ps2. The magic3.1(which used to be great, but has been surpassed) reads through all media w/o problems.. which alone is a lot nicer than dealing with a DVD with a tiny scratch or blue media games that wont read without opening the tray 10 times.

I also painted my ps2 original NES colors(the 2 shades of grey) and added a better fan w/ a few LEDs and new switches. I don't know why i went crazy... but if you take your PS2 appart.. use the KISS(keep it simple s****&%*) principal, because its overwhelmingly simple to mod and break.

any good? any information or feedback from people who have it and/or
