Is there a program that i can download and burn to make a boot disc for my ps2? I already have a slide card to take the tray in and out. Would something like gameshark2 work? How do i burn it? I have a sony dvd burner

You will need any bootable disc (Game), to make a backup of. You will have to use a repsectable DVD-R disc and a program like CloneDvd for the job.
Other readers might like to add more details on the exact procedure you will have to follow.

Gameshark disk works as the boot disk for the ps2.
I thought that the disc itself contains the boot information so how can you download it?

If I recall from the case of PS1, the bootable has neccessarily to be an original, not a copy. So, you will have to use some sort of original for doing the swap trick. (I used to use the original disc that came with my PS1). I expect the same applies to PS2.
