I'm having a DVD sound problem.
when I play a movie (brand new) the video is fine but the sound is very scratchy
and has a (chirping sound) I have tried 3 different sound cards and
DVD roms that work well with other computers. This did not help.
I reformatted my hardrive and reloaded Windows XP.
used Powerdvd to play the movie also tried Microsoft player.
no luck. I tried 3 different pci slots for the sound cards.
when I play a mucic CD it all sound fine..
any help would be nice...

I am using a Dell  Pent 4  2.2 gig  512 ram

How about the audio drivers of your board? If this is not also the problem then the specific DVD is faulty.

like I said I have used 3 different sound cards with working drivers
and 3 different DVD rom drives (all working well in other computers)
Still same problem .. I can play a music CD and the sound is fine..
Could it be the CPU chip. Doesn't the dvd Drive use the CPU
as it is decoding video and audio, before it goes through the sound card?  Ram has  been changed .

what connection do you use? Do you connect the drive to the audio card with an audio cable or through the IDE cable?

Do you have the problem with a specific only disc?

I would search for the "latest" bios update for your motherboard, and chipset.

it might be you board, since all devices are working properly on other systems.
