"Ridisc is a popular media brand, known mostly for its value for money solutions. After the request from many of our readers, we decided to proceed with a thorough testing of the performance of this brand. We received six different media types. "

check it out here, and post your experiences with these media...

What an excellent article!

The amount of testing you have done is incredible.

My hat is off to you. Great job!

Great tests - gut reaction from the conclusion... 16x media and drive compatibility needs more work - cannot really be recommended other than for the seriously impatient.

The red bar instead of a zero, is a VERY good addition to the visualization of the results.

I hope those media to be the same as those on the market. I have heard that there are some different qualities, is that true?

I did a review on the Ridisc Xtreme 8x DVD-R
Here are the graphs from the burn in my Pioneer DVR-109 v1.17

Good results by my standards

Here is a CATS report on this media

Nice review, Guys

But I wonder about the bad results with the Ritek G05. I use Platinum DVD-R 8x with that code, the burners I used (LG 4082, Pioneer MCC, LiteOn 1653S, LG 4163, NEC 3500) works fine on the G05

And a question: Is it possible to burn the test-media at it´s maximum capacity?

The DVD recording project we have it the same for all the burnings we do. It is very difficult to find an Single Layer movie that will fit 100% on a recordable media. A thought would be to use DVD Shrink, for example, on a DL movie but it is better the test movie to be 100% untouched rather than compressed.

It doesn´t matter I think whether the movie is compressed or not. I think it´s important to burn the maximum capacity because it´s the critical range. If I test the burning quality of DVD-writers I use more than 4480 MB data to see whether the error-rate explodes on the end of the disc

we have been using the same DVD-Video project file in order to have the same burning time, but for such media tests, we could use other project to cover the full disc capacity, this is something we will consider changing

I have to agree here the burn has to be as near to a full disc as possible I have created a custom Title Set of 4.37 GB (4,697,899,008 bytes) which is about 3megs short of the full capacity of a single layer DVD R.
If the discs pass the burn process, quality check & speed read without errors then it is OK. It's surprising how many disc falter at the post in the last 10megs of the burn.
