Hey,

Does anyone know if the CodeGuys at RPC1.org out of business? I mean I know their website is up, but they haven't updated anything, and I've sent them 3 emails over the past weeks, and have not received any response, I see LiteOn has upgraded a few firmwares, and I let them know and was trying to see if they were going to make patches as usual, but there is no response?

Codeking can both be found an CDFreaks forum. The reason that codeguys page has not been updated for a while is that UNFORTUNATELY FOR ALL LITE-ON users, Codeking bought a 1673S (lemon from word go!!! so I hear) and he has had nothing but grief.
He has said "I don't know why I did it. Below is the one of the two burns I did before I returned this drive (Verbatim MCC004 16x branded). Lite-On's quality control is still shocking. How does a drive like this get out of the factory. This will be the last Lite-On drive I buy for a very long time ."

AND "Thanks Pulsee. I asked for my money back while it was still in the 7 day return period. I played this game with my 1213S and after 3 drives and a battle I was left with a second hand drive that burns well but reads poorly (compared to my other drives). My 1653S won't burn MCC003, CMC MAG E01 and DAXONAZ2 (that I've found so far) but the same media burns perfectly in my 1213S with the same 1653S firmware. Yet it burns RICOHJPNR01/R02, MCC004 and TY02 fine. I know if I send this one back they will do one burn with some media that works okay and then try to charge me for the pleasure of testing it and returning it. It's just happened too many times with Liteon. My NEC 3500 and BenQ 1620 just worked perfectly out of the box. I'm afraid this is the last straw with me and Liteon..."

Codeking can be found more and more at CDF in the BENQ section!!!

The Omnipatcher was updated on the 1st of May, so they are definitely not dead.

In many cases, no news means just that - NO NEWS - if there is nothing that warrants a site update.
The latest 1653S firmware is covered, DRU710A BYX4 is covered - so unless there are any happenings, there's nothing else to say.

Firmware page, last modified 5th of May
KS04, JS07 etc.

I have noticed the cache lifetime seems to be a bit high, when something has been announced, I usually have to force-refresh to see it.

Well, I sent them 4 emails now, because LiteOn 167T updated their firmware, but still nothing on their site.

You sent me to CDFREAKS LiteOn 1673 Forum? I think you "misread" my post. I said LiteOn 167T

Codeguys are still around as it seems, probably dissapointed with LiteON quality, but for sure we need some of their work especially for the LiteON DVD-ROMs

I think they've just naturally recognized that BenQ has moved in to become the "LiteON' of DVD-RW drives, and are continuing their work, but this time with a company that will appreciate their efforts, instead of one that will work against them 100% of the time.

I've been burned by LiteON enough times as well.

Well, as far as "I'm" concerned, without their LiteOn support, it makes a totally worthless drive, nothing more than a dust collector.

No argument here! But with the CodeGuys doing all the work for LiteON, all the time... without getting paid, or compensated.... it's not too surprising to see that they are getting a bit fed up with it.

That's definately understood!  I hear CodeKing got a 1673 and it was trashed, and he's to say the least a bit upset!

That's right. That's why I put up the link to CDFreaks 1673S..... So EVERYONE can see how CRAP Lite-On DVD burners have become. Would class the 1673S as a drive that is NOT for NOOBS. Generally, media codes will have to be tweaked in order to get decent burns, from media that would burn consistantly well in other Liteys.... otherwise you are pretty much left with buying TOP, TOP grade media to ge reliable burns, which unfortunately is NOT an option available to everyone. Just my 2 cents worth.
