Thanks MP3Mogul, I got almost the identical results in the Write Trasfer Rate Test with Power Rec off. Also tested with PowerRec on and speed dropped toward the end. I tested with DVD-R, TYG02. Not sure if I attached the graph correctly, but if it shows, you can see that they were identical up to 15X and then dropped to a little over 12X with Power Rec on.

Yes there is a small drop with PowerRec on, but I have opted to leave it on, as there are less errors on the finished disc with it on, and I don't mind a minute speed decrease.

I agree...the minute or less extra to burn a good disc vs. bad is well worth the time. Still is very sweet to see the drive reach a 16X burn speed to know it's working properly. I'll keep Power Rec on to know my disc is burning properly.

you know I still cannot burn at 16x it burns at 12x now
maybe because of my system specs

P4 1.9Ghz 1gb or crucial Ram
60gb HD 7200rmp IDE 100
my hard drive is on the separat ide and my plextor is on the separate as Master now along with Toshiba sdm-1612 as slave

The CD-R burning is at 47.5x which is really good its just the DVD+R burn is at 12 now but nothing near X16 and my media is Fuji TY CD-R and DVD+R

after I changed my drive to master the speed imporved from 10 to 12x
I dont know whats the problem
My mobo chipset is SiS 645 mobo is Asus p4s333
I updated my sis chipset IDE drivers from asus download site etc...

Now if it's the same Fuji 8X's that I have, some of them, if you would use Plextools Pro and test, you will see the maximum recommended speed is 12X, this is why, but hey, you get 12x burns for the price of 8x media!

I achieved the 16X speed with 8X TDK DVD-R media. They were TYG02; however, with 8X TDK DVD+R media, I only get up to 12X. They were manufactured by CMC. So the media does have a lot to do with it. Now if I could figure out how to tell who manufactured the media before purchasing them, then I would be in great shape. You sure can't tell by the brand name...well I haven't been able to.
