As far i understand over Alcohol 120% :

(The Disc At Once method always allow the writing of RAW 2353 byte sectors with some subcode channels variations) :


1) RAW (DAO) : where the 96 bytes of associated P-W subcode channels are ALWAYS generated by the HARDWARE recorder.

2) RAW DAO-16 : where the 16 bytes of associated P-Q subcode channels are generated by SOFTWARE (but R-S-T-U-V-W by HARDWARE).

3)*RAW DAO-96 : where the 96 bytes of associated P-W subcode channels are ALWAYS generated by SOFTWARE.


*N.B : Best CD-R DAO write mode is #3 since :

(It allows writing of all subchannel information, including Digital Signatures, CD-Text, ISRC, Catalog Numbers, CD+G, CD+Midi, Gaps, Indices, TOC, etc.)


I beleive the setting in Alcohol "Write Method" = DAO/SAO is using DAO write mode #1.

But i dont understand what's SAO has to do into this..


Finally,

DAO always write in RAW but have some subchannel variations.
(SAO is another story.)


Someone could tell me which write method between DAO or SAO is actually used when burning a CD in "Normal CD" datatype.


My burner have some big problems reading back DAO RAW-96.
But, my burner could read back the CD'R if it was previously burned over DAO/SAO

I would like to confirm it could read back DAO (RAW). (And not SAO)

DAO is SAO with a closed disc. (One bit in the session lead-in is diferend, I think.)
It is based on cue and bin files. It was introduced by Yamaha, long ago, and is still in wide use by the majority of applications for non-copy-protected CD's.

RAW depends on the interpretation of the writer to a some extend.
The resulting recording can be SAO or DAO. But here this is not done using cue and bin files, but by supplying the "RAW" 2460 bytes per sector by the recording application.

Hence SAO/DAO and RAW are to some extend contradictory. When using RAW recording, the terms SAO and DAO are used just to indicate that TAO is not used, And this is because track linking can not be done in the pre-burnProof area in RAW mode.

Some recorders put restrictions on how much actually bytes they can accept. This is due to the fact that some bits among these bytes are used for head positioning during reading. Changing these, the disc would be unreadable by most players.

Software marketing and the authors themselves have made the used terminology quite complicated.

When your reader does a slow reading, this means there are errors in some parts of the disc, due to copy-protection. This is normal.

For day-to-day recording use DAO, or SAO for making multisession discs.

Thank you for your concern.

But my problem is i can't read back CDR that was made by the *exact*
same burner in RAW DAO-SUB or RAW SAO-SUB.

(I'm using the GCC-4480B with firmware 1.02)

Weirdly, theses CDR works marvously well on other readers/burners!!
So i could just burn cdr's and give them away for peoples other than me [xx(]

This drive should support RAW reading easily !!@!#$

Also, in the same LG combo series;

The GCC-4120B, GCC-4320B works fine.
I previously had both of them... No issues like that.

Any idea how i could fix this ? I already sent e-mails to LG tech
support and they aren't aware of any issues...

This is a known issue about the drive, and LG has been informed. Actually, the first people to find out about this problem were the nice people of Alcohol-soft.com (well, at least the first people to *talk* about it). Yes, i knew about it.. I'm just looking for the freaking fix!

I made LG aware & Alcohol ppl around the same time.
(Since i was using Alcohol soft for my testings, and LG were thinking it may be a software or pc configuration issue)
