Hi to all (My first post !!)

I bought a TLA#0203 drive, updated to firmware version 1.05
and tested with PlexTools on a Verbatim MMC004 media (16X)

Surprisingly, the write test it's not so bad.

It's very similar to the MP3Mogul with 1.04 beta firmware !!

The only strange thing it's the drop to 12X near the end of the media..

Maybe the bad results with firmware 1.05 are depending on the hardware revision?

Hi Zanna, thanks for your post, i assume the problem has to do with how Plextor recognizes the 16X writing strategy...

Mine is a TLA 0203 drive as well..... Perhaps my Verbatim media is a different batch, I'm looking for a different place to purchase some and test, and see if I get the same results.

By the way, did you have PowerRec enabled?

Hi MP3Mogul,

If I remember correctly, the PoweRec was enabled
in my test, but I cannot doublecheck now because
I am few kilometers away from the PX716A....

.. in a few hours I can make another test: with or
without PowerRec depending on the previous setting...

If this information can be helpful, I have a P4 3.2 Ghz
as you, with 1Gb DDR on a intel chipset motherboard
(ASUS P4C800 Deluxe) with a parallel-ata HD.

Yeah, sounds like your system is pretty close to mine. The only difference that I see is I have 3 GB of Memory, but other than that they seem identical.

I ran the test with PowerRec on, and then Off, and the results were disasterous with them off, and it "NEVER" reached 16x either way.

I did flash to 1.05 with the US firmware just a few minutes ago, and I'll do some testing in just a bit.

Just finished testing the write transfer rate without PoweRec.
(Before PowerRec was enabled) and the drop to 12X is disappeared !!

But I am just thinking about this:

Why the drive, with PoweRec ON, slow down to 12X CLV
from 16X CAV at 4.2 Gb ?

It's a matter of few seconds of burn time, but I think the best
thing would be to switch from 16X CAV to 16X CLV !!

The media is 16X certified, at last !

Question, did you just do the WRITE TEST with "No burning" or did you actually waste a DVD... because I did both, and the results when you actually write are WAY DIFFERENT than when you simulate writing!

Hi Mp3Mogul,

Hi did the "WRITE TRANSFER RATE TEST", so I just checked
the write simulation checkbox into the preferences panel.

I supposed the simulation is made turning the laser off,
and a part of this, all the process goes normally as a real burn.

Maybe I supposed wrong?

I have some data to backup, there is a way to make
a backup with PlexTools, while testing the transfer rate,
so I can make a real write and do not waste really a DVD ?

These Verbatim 16X DVD are just arrived on the market,
where I live, and are now so pricey

Yeah, just do one when you need to actually burn one. I was just trying to explain that their "test" does better during simulation than actually burning!

Also, there is firmware 1.06 out today??? GEEZE!

1.06 is around might want to try and see if anything has improved
