well, first of all, i would like to reset and update if necessary,
firmware, and make it region free also.

have read and reread over some forums and am a bit confused still.

i downloaded a '3500_216.zip', windows flash file, (approx 1,179KB)
and am unsure what to do next.

would it be possible to let me know as simply,
yet as detailed as possible what to do and how to do this procedure?

(have nero software v 6.3.1.20,
will be upgrading to 6.6XX when IP
speeds up file transfers next week, their system is malfunctioning)

by the way,
i have an HP ZE 4230 notebook

with a usb connection and external enclosure case with the nec 3500ag inside it.

(fyi: in the notebook i have a cdr/ dvdrom toshiba sdr2312.)

have read many issues relating to flashing to nec 3500 ag external.

can it be done?

again, if yes,
please advise as detailed as possible,
and forgive me for sounding cautious:

i am a real newby at this,
don't want to screw up anything.

Maybe you should try to unzip the file first ;)

okay okay, i did that and now here's whats going on...

have a notebook (HP Ze 4230) with an
internal Toshiba sdr2312 cd- rw/ dvdrom.

toshiba shows under secondary ide channel as the 'master'

also yesterday i connected an enclosure case (USB 2.0)
with a new NEC 3500ag, v.2.16.

shows below toshiba as 'unknown'
but is identified properly as the nec 3500.

okay, so i

downloaded firmware for NEC via windows flash:
3500W216.zip

when i run number three (3) of three unzipped programs

1) 3500orig.exe - original version as supplied
2) 3500fast.exe - 3100 and 3500 rip lock patches
3) 3500rpc1.exe - 3100 and 3500 rip lock and rpc 1



a selection box appears,
and

i can see the nec 3500....

which appears shaded on the top of the box,


and the program also shows the toshiba,

but that is in a drop down selection box.

seems i can only select the toshiba from the drop down box.

please advise how i can adjust 'whatever'
to allow me to select the
NEC in order to flash/ manipulate firmware.

the more detailed the instructions, the better.

use Necwinflash (win32 GUI) and *.bin Firmware to flash your Nec3500

i have as mentioned the

necflash_wingui.zip,

and now must be sure to
have correct flash and update files.

for example when i open
3500_2f9.zip


will 3500rpc1.bin do the trick?
