I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Seagate or anything, but I do like their drives... now I REALLY like their drives

I prefer warranty because I had some bad experiences with a few hard disks in the past. At least now I can sleep serenely for 5 years if I get a Seagate

it's the best way for seagate to claim that their drive quality is way above other manufacturers... However, i don't see any new technology from seagate that will improve quality, or reduce disk temperature, noise production or things like that... Everything is the same...

So, i think it's just a marketing trick, and a good one...

Well, I've never had any bad experiences with Seagate drives in the past.... and quite a few of my older 50MB and 100MB seagate drives (actually all of them!) stopped being useful to me before they stopped working! Although really, the only drive type I really have a serious dislike for is the 'ol IBM Deskstar series... that die if you look at them funny

I had used several seagate HDD in the past with not many good results. I don't have any problems with WDD and Maxtor drives, again maybe was just this drive...

I like maxtor drives and wdd is not bad. Seagate is a decent drive but with a 5yr warranty it definetely becomes more entising.

That is true, this will boost up Seagate sales, i imagine WD and Maxtor may soon follow

I was a never a fan of Seagate, but it's encouraging to see a company stand behind their products. I have one Seagate 8.4 gb drive that has lasted from 1999 and is still in use. WD and Maxtor have cut their warranties to the bone at one year, and now this "date of manufacture" and not "date of purchase," of the drive. It's really great to see a company moving in the other direction to distinguish themselves. If they can't build a better product, than why not offer better customer service? Sounds like a winning marketing plan to me (unless the drives fail).

That is what i am afraid off, getting a new drive that has 5 years o warranty is a nice idea, however what if this drive fails so often and loose your data?

Only time will tell if the Seagate disks will get back their glory...

If seagate offers this warranty, people WILL use it if the drives fail... and if drives fail a lot, then it will be really bad for seagate financially, so I think it will deffinatly be an encouragement for them to keep their products at a good quality level. Companys with really bad products don't usually offer warranty support, since they know better... when's the last time you saw Princo DVDRs with a 5 year warranty?

Been using a Seagate 120GB drive without ANY problem for 2 years solid....... Also I use WD and Maxtor.... all without any problems.

Just bought a Maxtor 120GB HDD months ago.
Planed to but a Hitach 160GB HDD but all of them are sold out, so, bought one Maxtor which I am actually prefer to have.

Guess what?
Around two weeks later, my old IBM HDD dead.......
