The v2.16 update introduced new method to scan DVD discs, reducing the sampling rate

There are 5 scales from High to Lowest

Here are the test results from the various settings

After making tests with all accuracy settings we can say that in general all scanning accuracy settings "draw" the PI peaks at the disc but of course not the absolute values.

I'm confused by the Time duration amounts... does the accuracy setting change the testing speed as well?

Could it be that even if the actual physical rotational speed remains the same, the chip can only report so many samples / second at certain speed? Hence longer times at higher accuracy due to re-reading?

Or is the speed indicator just wrong here?

The speed indicator is the same at all speeds, 2X CLV (just a visual glitch from PlexTools reporting 5~12X), i will make most tests today...

It would be interesting to change not only the reading accuracy but also the reading speeds for example

2X CLV
2~5 CAV, Good-Low accuracy,

etc...

then why the heck would anyone WANT to test at less then best accuracy? to be easier to compare to a K-Probe scan?

and I wasn't referring to the speed indicator, I was referring to the time taken for each test, which get progressively shorter as the accuracy level is reduced, which is what fueled my question...

Well the less accuracy the less time it takes to scan the whole disc at the fixed speed of 2X CLV

After plotting the above results with Excel...

Interesting to see that there is a linear relationship between the Reading time and the Average PI error rate...

so running the test at lower accuracy increases speed, but reduces error counts.... interesting. I wonder how much this matters since absolute values are pretty insubstantial anyways

I imagine getting a quick view of the disc is very valuable, especially if you hurry up, absolute values are not interest anyone, i will try make more tests with several other discs to see how the 5 settings affect the accuracy and values, stay tuned!

It looks like Burst mode in the new Plextools has lot's of bugs, or maybe it just has a couple of the error types confused? How come POE errors are always so much greater in amplitude then PIF errors?

Hmm i don't have much time to scan discs for POE errors, only for PIE/PIF

It is the same with Nero CD Speed ... you can trade accuracy (in terms of sampling intervals) for scanning speed.

Plextools always had the option to set the sampling intervals and sampling times for FE/TE and Beta/Jitter scanning IIRC ...
