Before I go into the details on how to do it. Let me just say that I do not know of anyone else who was tried this and also gotten it to work. My drive works fine and shows up with an 8MB buffer now also. So, if you decide to try this, you do so at your own risk. Now that i've frightened you off from trying it, here's how it's done. Goto the Aopen site and download the firmware for the crw3248 and for the crw4048. using ultimatezip or some other zip proggy, extract the contents of the files you downloaded. Each file should contain a flashing proggy and a firmware file. Now, take the firmware for the crrw4048 and put it in a folder with the flashing proggy for the crw3248. Run the crw3248 flashing proggy and select the crw4048 firmware file. Then reboot and your drive should show up as a Aopen crw4048. I do not know of any way to flash your firmware back to the crw3248 once you have loaded the crw4048 firmware. The worst I have seen happen from this is the drive shows up as a crw4048 but will not burn faster than 32x properly. The best I have seen is a drive that shows up as a crw4048 with 8MB of cache and works great. YMMV.
