I dont know what is firmware but it doesent matter, i know that it will make my dvd-rw to work better but im interested are there any negative efects that come with the firmware and does the guarantee covers those negative efects(if there are any)? i have lg-4163b

Firmware generally improves your drive's performance. The latest one for your drive (GSA-4163B ) is Ver. A106

According to LG, it improves the recording quality for DVD±R and DVD-RW and adds support for recording of
Optodisc(OPTODISCR016), Prodisc(ProdiscF02), Ritek(RITEKM16) DVD-Rs and UME Disc(AML 002 0), DAXON(DAXON AZ3 0) DVD+Rs
