I have a similar problem I believe to be with Nero 7. In the Log file it says:

#23 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 302 Write error
E: Sony DVD RW DW-Q58A

I have been unable to make DVDs properly. I have tried using a different PC (using Nero 7 again) and also an external DVD writer and still have problems of a similar nature. It often gets to the 'Lead-Out' stage and then the burning fails. Sometimes it will get through the entire DVD writing process without showing any errors however when testing the DVD in various players, it tends to cause read errors from 1/2 way through the film onwards.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I have tried using my laptop, my PC (Sony and Philips drives) and also using an external drive. I have also used 3 or 4 different brands of DVDs and have the same problem. Since I have used nero 7 for all of these times, I'm begining to think that possibly its something to do with the program or a conflict or something?!

I'm having problems with DVD burning also. I am still testing with different media and will give results later. One thing has worked on most I've tried and that is to dissable DVD high compatibility mode. Please try this with a simulation and let me know if that works.

I have no problem with DVD high compatability mode, I always have it ticked in the box.   We have a NEW version of Nero to be released within days.

I tried dissabling DVD high compatibility mode and it worked (mostly) for one DVD which had a few minor glitches in when played on a DVD player but much better than before, however I tryed burining a different DVD and the same problem occured. The wierd thing is, Nero doesn't register the burning as failed or having an error (hence the simulation shows no problems) but when i test play it in different DVD players, it causes read errors normally half-way onwards through the DVD.

I have also had problems burning data dvds with Nero but it does say that an error occurs which I suppose is something!

When I use different software I sometimes have problems similar to above but not always which initially made me think it was my DVD writer on my laptop, hence I bought one for my PC but I have identical problems.

It's driving me nuts!!!!!

What media are you using.  This sounds exactally like a "cheap" media problem.  I suggest getting and trying some verbatim media.

I'm using 'Datawrite Classic 8x general Purpose DVD-R'

I tried using Infiniti discs.........true I only used them to burn data dvds using nero when nero displayed an error every time at the 'lead-out' stage.

...Also.....I thought it a bit wierd that the DVDs always have the read errors at the exact same areas of the film in all of my attempts. If it was a media problem, surely it wouldn't be as consistent as that??

I've tried Nero 7 (all builds prior to 7/1/2006) on 3 separated WinXP Pro boxes, each with a different DVD combo burner, and several brands of DVD-R's and DVD+R's (TDK, Verbatim, Memorex, Ridata, and Pengo). All Nero 7 burns have failed with various but similar error messages, but always on the lead-out phase. 1 burn failure msg stated something similar to "not enough destination disk space" (i.e. the DVD blank), yet the data source was only approx 3GB. All other burns have had source sizes between half and the disc's capacity. It seems that Nero 7 has 2 common problem patterns that I've seen:

1. It's miscalculating disc capacity
2. It's trying to somehow "expand" the source content so it fills the entire physical disc. (Go figure.)

All burns are once again perfect after reverting back to Nero 6 on each machine.
