For the first time I tried to launch Nero InfoTool on my new rig and I get this error during the launch attempt:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero Toolkit\InfoTool.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Has anyone seen this and know how to get around it?  I installed MS's visual C++ runtime DLL's to no avail.... Also redownloaded the tool thinking it may be corrupt... no luck.

Latest, to my knowledge... won't open for me to find out, but the first one is waht shipped with the latest Nero 7 package... then I downloaded the latest at http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Info_Tool.html

Neither proved useful and I can't get the version # on this rig.

I wonered if they might be different.
Have you tried an earlier version from softpedia?

Yep -earlier version works.  Seems like typical Nero nowadays... take forever to get something right.

Exact same error message for me here. Once runtime error has occured you can't refresh list of installed programs via add/remove programs either.

I noticed that Multiple recorders option too is broken plays the sound that it is done but Nero window remains open needing to be end tasked.  Worked fine before recent nero update. "Nero-7.9.6.0_eng_update.exe"
Going to completely uninstall and try fresh install see if that helps.

If your going to do that, download the Nero clean tools... but don't expect much.  The Nero 7 suite in general is a disappointment.  I'm using ImgBurn, CDRWIN and ONES now... I've used CDRWIN for years and while it works for me, I can no longer recommend it.  Updates that add additional support for new burners are too few and too far between.  ImgBurn is great for data, img files, and DVD Video, but it does not do audio.  ONES is about as good as it gets as a Nero Burning ROM replacement without all the bloat.

Do not install Ask Toolbar
used nero cleantool latest version for nero 7
Installed latest version 7.9.6.0...same problems!
went back to version 7.8.5 clean install.
Custom install disabled installtion for:
Nero Home
Nero Showtime
Nero Media Home
Nero Photosnap
InCD
Nero Info Tool working fine again
Burning two DVD's now...
Disable Nero Scout by right clicking over Scout interface on taskbar selecting "options".
Then from services in administrative tools (control panel or start menu).
make sure that you stop nmindexing service but leave on manual.

Same problems installing/using nero 7.9.6 in Vista Ultimate (exact same hardware use a drive cage and swape between xp and vista)
Come one Nero you have some room for improvement here....

First of all go to microsoft .com and download latest direct x uninstall nero install direct x reinstall nero.
