I remember talks of this drive being released in April? But I haven't found or heard of any retailers selling it. So is it out or when is it supposed to be out? I've been patiently waiting for this drive too

I hope it won't be too long, there is not a murmor of info from Plextor Asia-Pacific distributor about this unit as yet, I hope they do decide to sell it publically, not just commercially as initially indicated.

Well, here's some news! I just got this email from Plextor today.

"Hello Cal,

The new PX-716AL should be available by the end of May.

We apologize for the delay and thank you for your interest in Plextor products."

I plan on picking one of these up as well. BestBuy told me that intend on carrying this!

Hey MP3Mogul, I know you're not going to purchase the Plextor 716AL from BestBuy, are you? I remember that you had some pretty bad experiences with them!

Cal,

They're the only ones around me that carry Plextor drives. I've bought my last 2 716's from them, one internal, one external, and no problems at least yet!!! LOL.... I'm just careful what I buy, only what I "HAVE" to buy from them.

There is always NewEgg.com... I can wait a couple of days for shipping. I have learned to be patient -- Ahh hell, who am I kidding. My wifes always around saying Muskrat (watch Meet The Fockers; you'll understand)!

Just received the following email today from Plextor concerning the Plextor PX-716AL "Tray-Less" drive!

"Hi Cal,

This drive has been delayed due to part shortages and we apologize for the inconvenience. It should be available in the next 2-3 weeks.

We apologize for the delay and thank you for your interest in Plextor products."

Hey guys:

This might seem like a dumb question, but, whats the difference btwn the Plextor 716A and the Plextor 716AL?? The only thing I saw differently on their website is Double/Dual layer on the AL version and Dual layer on the A version?? What is Double/Dual layer?? And is there any other advantages over the original A version??
