I am using the most current DVDInfoPro version 3.42 and am unable to run PI-PIF test on my Firewired Ext case BenQ DW1620 with B7P9 firmware.
The external case is a Plumax USB1-2/1394 combo using a Prolific 3507 chipset with 9/07/2004 firmware update.
My Lite-on 812s>832S works fine in the same chipset case and runs the DVDInfoPro PI-PIF test with no problem.
When attempting to run the test with my BenQ, the computer just hangs until I shut down the drive & case.
I am able to run Nero/CDSpeed Disc Quality test on this drive with no problem.
Any suggestions? Comments?

My Bad, I am using the current 3.43 release.
When I click on the PI-PIF icon, it dissappears and hangs my computer.
I then eject disc, still hung, try to safely remove firewire device......no response
turn off case,
getDVD info message that "drive is not suitable for this feature" ???????
WTF? I thought DVDInfoPro was designed with BenQ input???
any other ideas?

I am running DVDInfoPro PI-PIF test at the moment on my Lite-On 812S>832S, also in a 3507 prolific chipset case (also made by USMicro, who wholesales to Plumax, Bytec, ArrowMicro, etc their cases) This case has the same prolific 3507 firmware latest release. Test runs fine, and just completed.
I am also thinking of trying my BenQ with DVDInfoPro PI/PIF test, from an installed IDE position to see if it is the drive?
I can also swap cases and see if that solves the problem.
Are there any other reports of problems with the PI/PIF tests on external cased firwire BenQ's DW 1620's using the B7P9 firmware?
thanks for your suggestion,
Dishinit

Short update,
Switched to USB connection on my BenQ in my external 3507 Prolific chipset case,
and it ran the DVDInfoProPI/PIF test fine.
Have just downloaded latest update and will check firewire funtionality on the PI/PIF test.
Then will switch cases with my lite-on which can run the PI/PIF test under firewire, and will see how my BenQ does there.

OK, Here are my results with V3.47 DVDInfoPro PI/PIF testing, using my BenQ DD DW 1620 B7P9, in either a Plumax USB2/Firewire Prolific External case, or an ArrowMicro USB2/Firewire Prolific External case.
1) USB via External 3507 Prolific Chipset case, either case, (9-07-2004 Firmware) = works fine on DVDInfo Pro PI/PIF testing
2) Firewire via external 3507 Prolific Chipset, either case = Fails DVDInfoPro PI/PIFtest, hanging computer with "drive is not suitable for this feature" message showing only after shutting down external drive and removing from system.
3) Installed BenQ DW 1620 on internal secondary IDE Master = DVDInfoPro PI/PIF test runs fine????
4) Lite-On 812S>832S installed in either external case, runs PI/PIF test with no problems when using Firewire.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there a solution?
Thanks for any response

benq drives from what is said are picky on which external enclosures they will run properly.
I doubt its an issue with dvdinfo.
you can try cd speed and see if you get the same problems. if you do its more than likely issues of compatibility with drive and enclosure

S33K3R,
Thanks for your response, I did state in my 1st post, that my BenQ drive will run the CD Speed Disc Quality app with no problem on FireWire.
In fact my BenQ will run the DVDInfo Pro PI/PIF app using the USB connect, no problem. it is just Firewire that is the problem.
I currently have my BenQ installed as Sec Master internal IDE. This is for 16X writing & firmware updates. All Disc Quality apps work fine with this setup.
My Nec 2510A is in one external enclosure & my Lite-On 832S is in the other.
I want to know if I am an isolated case of failed DVDInfo Pro Disc Quality testing, when my BenQ is in my Prolific 3507 external USB/Firewire enclosure, or are others with a similar setup experiencing the same.
With the exception of a 12X writing ceiling when using an external case with my BenQ 1620, everything else works fine.
