I just recently updated my firmware to VY05 but now none of my ritek G04's work. Does anyone know how I can go back to the previous version.

Visit http://dhc014.rpc1.org/

There, you will find a copy of the old VY02 firmware as well as a page with instructions on how to flash your drive (you'll want the LtnFW tool).

Found it strange that I could not use the updated firmware with dvd copy 2 or instant copy 8 but it worked with Nero. Its a real shame because I loved the auto bitsetting.

Sony had liteon do a number of changes to VYO5 the most notable was removing bitsetting, I have heard rumours that Sony because they also sell retail dvd videos have had liteon add stuff that will make copying said video much harder this could be all rumours but when stuff is removed that makes videos play on players and stuff stops working it makes you wonder.

Remember just because you're paranoid does not mean they're not out to get you, its just highly unlikely

you could just use a LiteON 832S firmware to support more media codes

Think I will try that because I'm thinking about trying out the verbatim 10 pack that includes the DL +R media and I want to be able to use bitsetting.

Eek!

If you're going to burn an expensive +R DL disc, for the love of (insert deity here), do not use a Sony firmware! Use the VS05 firmware found here:
http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm

The DL burn quality of VS05 is *much* better than any of the existing 832S/700A firmwares.

Here's a VS05 DL burn that someone sent me... the other firmwares will give you at least twice the errors...

Followed advice from this forum and updated to latest LiteOn firmware. Seems to burn my Ritek G03 & G04 perfectly. Think I might wait on the Double layer media at least until more companies start to produce it. Also I no longer have problems with instant copy 8.

Thanks for the help.

Just picked up the new firmware, thank you. Now if I can just find some good 8x media that I don't have to pay a premium price for.
