Hello Forum,

I want to chip my v4 ps2 so I can play dvdr backups on it.
My dvd dual format writer will be here soon.
I have noticed that original cd and dvd games work fine but when I
tried my m8s dvdr backup of a film it came up with disk read error.
(It plays fine on his ps2 which is not chipped)
Now bearing this is mind is it worth me getting a chip if the damn thing will not play dvdrs.
Any help, adjustments you can advise will be very much appreciated.

The problem of your PS2 not playing DVD-R's is not related to a mod chip.

Please try a different brand of media. Please use a copy of DVD video you do own. Please do not use DVD+R discs, as they appear even less compatible.

Good luck.

In general, as a rule of thumb, the optimum speed for recording is one close to the max available. This is because recorders are optimized in firmware for this case. However, due to the scarity of 8x DVD-R discs and the various problems with 4x media, I think it is required some sort of personal investigation by each user, according the brand of its recorder and the projected type of readers.

After Mitsui stopped to be involved itself in the manufacturing process of discs, I would try TDK and Taiyo Yunden.

Please also take into account to what our moderators are suggesting.
