first of all I registered just for this particular problem so I'm new (sorry for the english mistakes that I'll possibly do in advance :)
I have NEC 3500a dvd writer , so I burned some avi files on an iomega 4x dvd-r media . It plays flawless on my pc but when I put it in the divx player (720sa) it's kinda jumpy , not much but I can just feel it by looking. It is not as flawless as it is on pc.
my philips player plays normal dvd movies flawlessly. So is my problem because of the media I've been using (iomega dvd-r) ?
which media should I prefer?
what is the difference b/w dvd-r and dvd+r ? would it be better if ı use dvd+r media ?
if necesarry :
software : nero 6,6,0,3
hardware : amd 64 3000+ , MSI K8T , 1Ghz Kingston ram etc..

There isn't a great difference between - and + formats for us, the users.

Since you have the 3500, according to CDRinfo's review, TY and Verbatim reported excellent quality.

thanks Iggy . I also heard good things about verbatim with nec 3500 but it s hard to find'em here in Turkey. I'll look around anyway.

by the way about the problem I had :
avi s that ı burned on the dvd are packed bitstream . I figured that's the problem with the philips player. so the files should be checked before burning.

Is it DivX?

Verbatim are Mitsubishi Chemicals, if that helps. TY can be also found as Plextor or That's.

Xvid it only happens in the xvid s , if you r interested go to http://www.moitah.net/ and download mpeg4 modifier to change the packed bitstream. and to only check if it is bitstream find the software named "gspot"

There are some settings about Xvids, like QPEL, that some player don't support them, as the 720. By not supported it means that the playback is jerky with skipps and frozes.

so are you telling me that ı should check more details.. ı never heard qpel . Is there another solution for the xvid s to run smoothly with 720 . for ex : is it possible to recode xvids as divx ?

Yes, especially if you download those Xvids, check the settings. Then ask here if you don't know something. Since I am not an expert on this I am sure someone will help you.

for your information ı just bought 25 verbatim 8x dvd-r from the internet.. great !!

ı have no idea how to recode a xvid movie to divx or vice versa :) which software should be used etc.. probably virtualdub ..
why ı'm asking this? if the xvid s cause problems ı could just recode them to divx and no problem anymore. am ı right ?

If you check my profile it says Iggy not Pop.

Good purchase of media. Normaly you can burn then at 12X, however better stick on 8X. Above I gave you CDRinfo's review. Take a look to it. There are alternative solutions if you like.

As for the converssion I will ask and tell you soon.

I used to play drums , I have no idea if he drank all the bottle or not .. all ı know is he asked for two bottles of Jack Daniels' , one for before the show , one for after I guess.
