Right LA, I've removed the scsi card.
No problem rebooting, (of course the 33 icons are still there, even though I delete them every time I switch on.)
I'm not sure what this tells you?
Would it be worth installing EZCD again, just to see if it would now recognise the Mitsumi?

what do you mean by 'try' Nero?
Nero is there, working fine, but there was never a problem with Nero -apart from the 33 icons!

Also totally uninstall Nero and delete the Ahead Folder in Program Files !!!

Sorry LA, I moved before I got your second message so I didn't remove NERO.
Same old story! Here's a step-by-step of what happened.
1.I tried to run IAA from the start bar but it wasn't detected - presumably because I restored my registry last night, to get my drives back

2. I found and installed IAA and restarted (because it told me that I had to do so before the program would work.)

3.During the reboot it said "Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2
%1:%2
Windows could not upgrade one or more files before starting."
"It may be possible to start normally."

4. I pressed enter and then got a blue screen with the message "an exception OE has occurred at 0028:......................."
(Same as I posted on 16 Aug 02 with a very slight change in the number reported)

5. I have now restarted and have run IAA and it's telling me the same as yesterday - my CDROM drives have gone, my hard drive has been replaced with a Fujitsu MPE3173AE and my secondary HD controller caused a problem so Windows will never try to install it again!!!!

Now I'll have to restore the registry to this morning's successful startup!
I'll not do anything until you let me know what you think!

Well I suggest you do what we discussed Yesterday and format the hard-drive and re-install Windows ME !!!

Latest chapter in the ongoing saga!
Firstly, I couldn't find my ME disk at work today, so hopefully tomorrow.
An interesting development! I got rid of the icons! I was messing about and opened the C drive from My Computer, Lo and Behold - there were 100s and 100s of the icons there. I deleted them (took a long time!) and they haven't appeared since! What I think was happening was that I had enough space for 33 icons on my desktop, and each time I deleted the current 33, 33 more replaced them. I must have done something with NERO the first day I installed it (7 August, is the 'created date' for the IDX icons) and they have been saving to desktop since that date but there was only room to show 33 at a time! The shortcuts for Nero and the other downloads that you sent me have now appeared on the desktop - presumably bacause there's now room for them!
Another interesting development - I was able to open and run the IAA program without getting the 'exception at2008:............'message. (It did tell me that it wasn't able to upgrade the file %1 from %2 etc, but the pc did reboot without me having to do another restart!)

I've now run IAA and here are the results:

Well at least you have sorted out your Mysterious Icons out !!!
Now what you have to do to stop them comming back is to do what I said in my first reply open Nero and go to the top pull-down Menu Recorder/Choose Recorder and you should find out that the Virtual Image Recorder is Selected unless it has changed automaticaly so if it now shows Your Writer select that instead. Then try to Burn a CD on the Fly !!!

Sorry for not getting back sooner, but I've had my fair share of problems!
I reinstalled WinME last Wednesday and everything seemed fine until I tried to access the internet. No connection! Device Manager said that my modem was 'working properly' so I couldn't figure what the problem was? Couldn't contact yourself because I don't have access to another computer - Catch 22! After two days of trying to sort it out, I headed off to buy a new modem and on my way to the store I had a flash of inspiration - maybe the driver for the modem needed to be reinstalled!
Asked for help from the 'engineer' in PC World, but for all the help he was, I might as well have asked my dog. (I don't have a dog, but you know what I mean!)
Anyway, Windows couldn't find a driver in any of my backup CDs etc. By this time I was saying words like GOSH, and MY OH MY!
Windows eventually found a suitable driver in my old, original Windows 95 CD! (Don't know why it couldn't find a driver in Win98 or WinME?)It then took hours for me to set up the ISP etc - I'll spare you the details!
Anyway, when I eventually heard the dialling tone on my modem, on Friday evening, it reminded me of hearing the first cry of my firstborn son 25 years ago!
I spent the weekend reinstalling all my programs etc and here I am, back on line!
I've used NERO to save a few tracks onto my hard disk, with no problems, and I've backed up a few disks to ease myself into using it. I haven't yet downloaded CloneCD, as Nero sems to cover my needs.
Things are OK at the moment and I'm tempted to load EZCD, just to see if it would now recognise the Mitsumi CDRW, but I think I'll resist the temptation!!! I'll just stick with Win Media Player to listen to my music. (I couldn't get Nero Player to access and play the tracks which I had saved to the HD. Does Nero Player only play tracks which have been saved using Nero Burning Rom?)
One thing which is interesting is that the whole appearance and layout of CDRINFO has changed? Is this just a coincidence, i.e. did the forum change its layout/appearance last week? or is it that I did a CLEAN install with my WinME 'upgrade' disk and I now have a full-blooded version of ME?
Ayway, thanx loads for all the help you've been.I'm on a steep learning curve!!

Thank God everything is OK You had me worried and I was thinking we would have to start again from the begining !!!
As for PC World and what their engineers know about Computers you could fit it on the back or a postage Stamp !!!
Whatever you do don't re-install Easy CD Coaster Creator or we could be back to Square one !!!
Downloading Clone CD will not hurt but if Nero is doing the Job stick with it. By the way there is a new version just out and you can download it from here :-

But it is 16 MEG which will take you a fair time to download it on your 56k Modem !!!
As for the Forum We have had a face lift and New sections added for DVD and some other nice additions and John is concidering some more new things to Add as well so it is not at your end it is at ours thanks to John !!!
Anyway I hope everything stays as it should but if it dosen't you know where We are !!!
