The Terramaster D5-300C is proposal from Terramaster to cover the needs for either PC/MAC users for external FAST RAID 0/1 operation among with increased need for additional storage capacity. The device supports RAID 0/1 operation mode (with the first two HDD slots), while the other three can be used in single drive mode. Alternative users can use all five HDDs slots as single. The device supports both 3.5" and 2.5" drives (either mechanical or SSDs). The retail package is complete and has all the stickers/screws you might need in order to get everything ready to run. The device has a nice external finish in light silver and it’s made out of aluminum with plastic parts (HDD trays). While someone may not like it, it saves weight and for sure doesn't affect the overall performance of the device. Installing the drives is easy and Terramaster has several guides/information at their website and a good active forum for users to ask questions for possible problems.

The device needs a computer (PC/MAC) to operate since its directly connected via the included Type C cable. The operation mode can be straightforward since if you have already formatted drives, will appear directly to the system, or in case of new drives you have to initialize them (as you would anyway if connected to the system internally). The device promises up to 410MB/sec reading/writing performance (when using SSDs) and from our tests we can confirm this. When using mechanical drive, performance would be accordingly to the performance of their specs. The power brick is rated at 95watt and even using all five (5) HDD slots you won’t have any issue since most of them doesn't consume above 10watts at full operation, so you are covered from this aspect as well. The two fans at the back will ensure the internal stays cool at all situations. Overall we feel the Terramaster D5-300C is a complete and good product for user who wish to have external RAID0/1 solution with additional free slots either for PC/MAC use with very fast reading/writing speeds.

Positive
