VIA to Support the AMD LIVE! Digital Media Platform

Chipset maker VIA Technologies today announced its chipset availability for the AMD LIVE! digital media platform, following similar announcements made by ATI Technologies and Nvidia. AMD officialy unveiled the "AMD LIVE!" brand at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Consumer multimedia desktops and notebook PCs that feature the digital media platform using AMD's AMD64 technology and Windows XP Professional software will be printed with the brand logo on the chassis, according to AMD. Availability of products based on the platform are slated by the middle of this year, according to the company.

VIA stated that its latest chipset offerings, including the VIA K8T900 and VIA K8M890, all support AMD's AMD64 technology. For multimedia applications, VIA also offers its latest integrated and discrete graphics solutions with S3 Graphics' Chrome S20 series of graphics processors, the company said. The graphics processors features the Chromotion Video Display Engine for enhanced visual output, display support, including HDTV output formats up to 1080p, advanced 2D/3D graphics capabilities and hardware accelerated motion compensation, according to the company. In addition, the chipset maker announced the availability of its southbridge chips, such as the VIA VT8251, for AMD's digital home solution.
