Sony Europe announces high durability 8cm DVD+RW media

Sony Europe announces high durability 8cm DVD+RW media

Media Aug 16,2005 0

The new quality media, based on Sony's celebrated AccuCORE technology are specifically designed for consumer camcorders.

The increasing popularity of DVD camcorders, today saw Sony Europe's Recording Media division announce the introduction of AccuCORE and DVD+RW technology to its line-up of 8cm DVD media. Concumers now have at their disposal even more options when seeking to purchase quality media for their camcorders and there is no need for them to resort to questionable east-asia cheap alternatives.

AccuCORE, a Sony developed technology designed to deliver significant advancements in DVD media performance, was introduced to its 12cm DVD line up in January this year. A version of AccuCORE designed specifically with DVD camcorder users in mind is now available with both 8cm DVD-R, -RW media and the new line up of 8cm DVD+RW media.

The increasing number of DVD camcorder sales has meant a swiftly expanding demand for quality 8cm DVD media that ensures recordings of precious moments in life are protected, commented Lela Fakhfakh, Senior Product Manager for Audio and Video Media in Sony Recording Media & Energy Europe. The features of AccuCORE specific to 8cm DVD are designed to provide a level of quality assurance that is simply unavailable with the rising amount of low class products becoming available on the market. By introducing AccuCORE we are reducing the risk and providing consumers with a choice they can trust.

The very nature of camcorder use means that the associated 8cm DVD media is more exposed to the risk of damage. The latest version of AccuCORE technology has therefore been introduced to increase the robustness of a media that will often be used in transit. In particular, 8cm DVD AccuCORE Scratch Guard provides an essential protective scratch resistant layer to combat disc damage as a result of numerous manipulations, ejections and insertions of the disc.

Along with Scratch Guard 8cm AccuCORE includes other key features:

  • Stain Resistant: A special treatment of the disc surface to protect the disc from dust and other stains.
  • Anti Static: Due to the extremely low levels of static electricity generated, dust accumulation is reduced.
  • Archival Reliability: Stringent quality checks, throughout the production management process, reduce error rates and enable Sony 8cm DVD to deliver the optimum quality even after long archiving periods.

Finally, the introduction of DVD+RW 8cm media from Sony will enhance the usability of DVD camcorders even further. In addition to providing all the benefits of AccuCORE technology, +RW discs also remove the need for the finalization process inherent in other formats. As a result, +RW removes the waiting time associated with finalization* so that home movies can be immediately played back directly on the majority of DVD players and other playback devices.

The new Sony 8cm DVD media with AccuCORE technology can be easily identified by the key shape like purple AccuCORE logo designed to emphasize key technology.

* Note: to avoid finalization with DVD+RW, images need to be recorded for at least eight minutes in SP (standard play) recording mode.
