PureDepth Explains Multi-Layer and 3-D Display Technology

PureDepth Explains Multi-Layer and 3-D Display Technology

Enterprise & IT May 22,2009 0

PureDepth, the creator of Multi-Layer Display (MLD) Technology announced the launch of PureDepth Japan KK (PDKK) and explained the characteristics and commercialization schedule of a display based on its technology. PureDepth's MLD technology promises to offer a lifelike viewing experience by adding Actual Depth--not perceived depth--to visual content, so consumers can enjoy 3-D-like imagery without wearing special glasses. MLD technology consists of layers of display panels placed in front of one another in a single monitor, with patented technology used to remove interference. Viewers using an MLD-powered device will see data or images on the front display screen while simultaneously viewing images displayed on the panel(s) behind. The company claims that the technology doesn't give people headaches, dizziness, fatigue and loss of orientation like other 3-D display technologies that simulate depth rather than creating real depth.

PureDepth's MLD technology is currently available in Japan through a licensing agreement with Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., which incorporates the 3-D technology into its hardware platforms for the popular pachinko and pachislot markets. The first such game to come to market, the Onihama" pachislot game, which was introduced in November 2008 and is sold by Abilit Corporation, has been rated by players as the second most popular pachislot machine in Japan.

"We are both excited and honored to establish a presence in as vital a market as Japan," said Andy Wood, CEO of PureDepth. "We believe there is a huge market opportunity here, as evidenced by the success of the Onihama game, which used our MLD technology to wow players with eye-grabbing images with real depth and incredible color and contrast."

PureDepth's technology has applications in markets including mobile devices, computer monitors, games, public information displays and more. Moreover, the company will start volume production of 12.1-inch displays in Korea within this week. The production was contracted to Kortek Corp of Korea, which manufactures the 20.1-inch display too.
