New Sony BD Players Boot Up In three Seconds

Sony will release next month in Japan the BDP-S5100 and the BDP-S1100 Blu-ray disc players, both offering a polyhedron, stylish design, fast start-ups and support a wide variety of audio and video formats. The BDP-S5100 supports playback of Blu-ray Video, Blu-ray 3D content as well as DVD video content, while the BDP-S1100 has been limited to playback just 2D BD Video and DVD. The players have codecs essential to playback MPEG-1 Video / PS, MPEG-2 Video / PS, TS, MPEG-4, MPEG-4 AVC, WMV9, AVCHD Ver2.0 (AVCHD Progressive), Motion JPEG, 3gpp/3gpp2, Quick Time and Matroska videos, along with FLAC audio files. In addition, the BDP-S5100 supports SA-CD audio.

By setting "Quick Start-up Mode", the BD players can be ready to use only 3 seconds after being powered up.

The BDP-S5100 additionally features "TV SideView" for the first time. The free application enables you to enjoy internet movies by using a smartphone or tablet.



The BDP-S5100 also offers WLAN connectivity.

Estimated prices for the BDP-S5100 and the BDP-S1100 are ¥20,000 and ¥14,000, respectively.
