Microsoft Unveils Reorganization Plan

Microsoft is combining its divisions that focus on devices and software for businesses while moving the Windows operating system unit into the cloud operations.

The major management reshuffle, announced by Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella, also includes the departure of Windows chief and Microsoft veteran Terry Myerson. He was responsible for supervising the company's products including Windows, Surface, Xbox, Windows Server and HoloLens Mixed Reality.

Nadella also announced the appointment of Scott Guthrie to oversee the combined Windows and cloud operation. Office chief Rajesh Jha will also be in charge of the newly created Experiences & Devices team. This group will focus on how people interact with
various computing devices, using multiple senses, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft is also making the following leadership changes:

  • Devices: Panos Panay will now serve as Microsoft's Chief Product Officer and will lead the company's first-party devices.
  • Windows: Joe Belfiore will continue leading Microsoft's Windows experiences. Windows will i sfinding its way to new scenarios and device form factors, and becomes more connected to Microsoft 365 offerings. Microsoft promised to share more about the Windows roadmap at Build.
  • New Experiences and Technology: Kudo Tsunoda will continue to lead this team .
  • Enterprise Mobility and Management: Brad Anderson will continue to lead the Windows Enterprise deployment and management efforts with tighter alignment across Microsoft 365 and will partner with the EMS teams within Cloud + AI Platform.
