In the following tests, we check the drive's behavior when reading scratched / defective audio discs. The test discs used were the ABEX series from ALMEDIO.
- ABEX TCD-721R
Errors total | Num: 931161 | ||
Errors (Loudness) | Num:54495 | Avg: -74.6 dB(A) | Max: -25.0 dB(A) |
Error Muting Samples | Num:2993 | Avg: 1.1 Samples | Max: 89 Samples |
Skips Samples | Num: 0 | Avg: 0.0 Samples | Max: 0 Samples |
Total Test Result | 76.7 points (of 100.0 maximum) |
A good performance from the Memorex drive in this test. The errors start at around the 20min mark of the disc, where the scratch is located. This shows that the drive is equipped with a high quality optical system and that its error correction capabilities are also quite good. In addition, the majority of the corrected data do not exceed the -60 dB(A) level, which means that the noise will be almost inaudible, especially if it is surrounded by loud music.
- ABEX TCD-726

Errors (Loudness) | Num:13 | Avg: -86.1 dB(A) | Max :-76.9 dB(A) |

Total Test Result | 93.0 points (out of 100.0 maximum) |
A very good performance with the ABEX TCD-726 disc, which includes black dots and fingerprints. The specific error reported is most probably not audible.
- CD-Check Audio Test Disc
The CD-Check Test Disc is a very useful tool for evaluating the Sound Reproduction / Error correction capabilities of a CD player. The disc offers a signal combination with disc error patterns to rate the drive's abilities to read music and reproduce it completely. Five tracks on the disc contain a sequence of progressively more difficult tests. These tracks are referred to as Check Level-1 through Check Level-5.
The tracks are reproduced through a software multimedia player (e.g. Windows Media Player). Each level is considered as passed, if the tone is smooth, continuous without interruptions, skipping or looping. The higher the Check Level passed, the more reliable the sound reproduction of the tested drive.

The drive achieved flawless reading with the first 4 tracks. Playing the fifth track produced audible sound interruptions and clicks, although the track was reproduced flawlessly once. The test confirms the very strong error corrections of the Memorex drive.
