LG Adds VUDU HD Move Service Network Blu-ray Player, Showcases New LED HDTV Models

LG Adds VUDU HD Move Service Network Blu-ray Player, Showcases New LED HDTV Models

Consumer Electronics Sep 10,2009 0

LG Electronics today announced the addition of the high-definition streaming movie service from VUDU to the LG Wireless Network Blu-ray Player (model BD390) and introduced a "Full HD" LED LCD HDTV at CEDIA EXPO 2009. With VUDU, users can instantly buy or rent from a library of movies and TV titles, including a catalog of more than 2,200 high-definition (HD) movies. The BD390 with VUDU is demonstrated in Atlanta this week at the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) EXPO 2009.

The addition of VUDU service to the BD390 adds yet another content provider alliance to the "NetCast Entertainment Access" family of features, which already includes access to hundreds of hours of Netflix, Roxio CinemaNow, and YouTube streaming content.

VUDU?s streaming movie service delivers a near-instant viewing experience ? movies start quickly, including high-definition HDX movies, and viewers can fast forward, rewind and browse chapters without the delays or the frustration associated with slow buffering. Movies are delivered in the HDX format, with Full HD 1080p resolution, and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.

The VUDU catalog is updated weekly, and newly released movies from major studios are typically available months before they are available on subscription-based services.

As LG?s first-ever wireless Network Blu-ray Player, LG?s BD390 offers "Full HD" 1080p video performance and 1080p up-scaling of DVD content via HDMI output. The BD390 is also equipped for easy connection to the home network and has one gigabyte (GB) of built-in memory for BD Live functionality.

The BD390 with NetCast Entertainment Access is available now at nationwide retailers at a manufacturer?s suggested retail price of $399. VUDU connectivity will be available at the end of the month via a free upgrade.

Sleek SL Series Models Couple Advanced Display Technology, Single-Panel Design

LG also today introduced a "Full HD" LED LCD HDTV ? that looks almost as thin as the single sheet of glass it resembles.

The new 47- and 42-inch class SL90 series HDTVs feature LED lighting and other display technologies developed by LG Electronics.

Unlike conventional LCD TVs, where the panel is recessed slightly within a thick plastic frame, LG?s new series of LCD HDTVs use a single-layer design and narrow bezel to create these sets.

LG uses a special film lamination technology for better color tuning, gradation and reduction of glare ? all in a sleek, minimalist package. The lamination process completes the flat surface, virtually eliminating the visible line between the screen and the bezel when the set is turned off.

LG?s SL90 series sports a depth of just 1.15 inches, and produces a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1. An additional benefit of the film lamination process is to provide anti-glare properties to the screen.

The SL90 series also incorporates advanced display and calibration options. LG?s Picture Wizard technology provides consumers with on-screen reference points for key picture quality elements, such as black level, color, tint, sharpness and backlight levels. For consumers looking for advanced calibration, the SL series offers ISFccc calibration options. Using the LG Expert Mode, an ISF-certified technician professionally calibrates the HDTV using ISF parameters based upon individual home theater environments and ambient lighting. Once calibrated to the optimal setting, the calibrations are saved as ISF "Day" and ISF "Night" modes.

With TruMotion 120Hz technology, the SL90 reduces motion blur and creates more natural looking images.

The SL90 series will be available later this Fall in 47- and 42-inch class screen sizes at manufacturer?s suggested retail prices of $2,599 and $2,099 respectively.

Also on display at CEDIA Expo this week is LG?s SL80 series of LCD HDTVs, which shares a similar single-layer design with the SL90, using a sleek edge-to-edge panel of glass over a slim bezel.

The SL80 boasts TruMotion 240Hz technology as well as LG?s anti-glare filter that reduces glare. It has a dynamic contrast ratio of 150,000:1 and it is less than 1.8 inches thick at its slimmest point.

The SL80 series is available now in 42-, 47-, and 55-inch class screen sizes at MSRPs of $1,599, $1,899 and $2,799 respectively.
